blackboardfilms GmbH & Co.KG is a independent production company for arthouse, documentary, multi-channel-installations, virtual reality, 360° film,  and immersive digital applications.

blackboardfilms produces on highest international standards with a focus on cultural, social, and political content.

We work on the intersection of art, film and technology with a discursive approach to reach global audiences beyond genre definitions. 

Producing for the international festival circuit, TV, cinema and VOD we are are interested to test new forms of distribution models.

Overall we aim to redefine the moving image culture and shed light on untold stories around the globe.

blackboardfilms offer a complete 4K and VR compatible in-house production facility – from research to pre-production, production and post-production.

We collaborate with innovative motion designers, musicians, content producers, market experts, entrepreneurs and tech innovators.

We look back to numerous collaborations with funders from the cultural field: film and new media funds, foundations, museums, art galleries and exhibition makers.

We also offer IHK-certified Green Motion & Producing consultancy for ficition, documentary, short and experimental films as well as hybrid projects in an efficient and creative way to support productions in fulfilling the national funding standards.

 

“Blackboard Films“ was a term coined by Jean-Luc Godard in the 1970s. A prime example is his film Tous Va Bien (1972). [The] way of “making films politically“ is more a concern of aesthetics or production; it is also ideological, and Godard affirmed in 1972 that “a movie is not a reality, it is only a reflection“. The blackboard movies differ from traditional propaganda movies … and deal with the construction of an active political thought, turning the film screen into an interface for consideration and debate rather than a medium for passive consumption.“ *
